The BEEP Doctors fleet consists of modified volunteer doctor’s vehicles and a specialised fleet of response cars.

The majority of BEEP Doctors respond to pre-hospital medical emergencies in their own vehicles. All of our doctors are trained to respond on blue lights to enable them to reach the patients that need them as quickly as possible. For this reason, doctors who respond in their own vehicles have had them specially fitted with blue lights and sirens and are equipped with specialised medical equipment. They are also responsible for ensuring that their vehicles are safe for emergency responding.

However, in 2021 BEEP Doctors started an exciting new development with the addition of our specialised fleet of X-Ray Charlie (XC) Response Cars.

The XC (standing for enhanced care) cars are specially made marked vehicles equipped with all of the necessary medical equipment required for our doctors to respond to an emergency.

These cars provide an enhanced level of safety to patients, our doctors and other emergency service personnel on scene. As the number of XC response cars in our fleet increases they will then be specifically assigned to look after patients in a given region of Cumbria. For example, a North XC Car operating out of West Cumberland Infirmary to care for patients in the North of region, a West XC Car based near Whitehaven to care for patients in the West and a South XC Car operating in and around the Kendal and South Lakes area.

Driving the length and breadth of the county

Our team of BEEP Doctors covers the whole of Cumbria from Workington in the west, up to the Scottish Borders and down to Kendal in the south. The BEEP Doctors attend most major incidents in the county, including road traffic collisions, farming accidents or other life threatening medical emergencies.
