The majority of BEEP Doctors respond to pre-hospital medical emergencies in their own vehicles. All of our doctors are trained to respond on blue lights to enable them to reach the patients that need them as quickly as possible. For this reason, doctors who respond in their own vehicles have had them specially fitted with blue lights and sirens and are equipped with specialised medical equipment. They are also responsible for ensuring that their vehicles are safe for emergency responding.
In 2021 BEEP Doctors started on an exciting new project to develop a fleet of visible emergency response cars.
These cars provide an enhanced level of safety to patients, our doctors and other emergency service personnel on scene. As the number of response vehicles in our fleet increases they will then be specifically assigned to look after patients in a given region of Cumbria. For example, a North response vehicle operating out of West Cumberland Infirmary to care for patients in the North of region, a West response vehicle based near Whitehaven to care for patients in the West and a South response vehicle operating in and around the Kendal and South Lakes area.

#BD3 was loaned to BEEP Doctors by Smart Energy for 18 months as part of their Xray Charlie Project to support BASIC Schemes across the country. In 2023 we were given the opportunity to purchases the vehicle for the long term use of Beep Doctors. This was made possible by a very generous donation from the HELP Appeal.
#BD1 came into the Beep Feet in Oct 22 and has been donated by Sellafield Social Impact Programme, the car was based on #XC1
#BD2 came into the BEEP Fleet in Oct 22 and has been donated by Sellafield Social Impact Programme. Beep have worked closely with VOLVO and have managed to secure a hybrid S60 which is fantastic news as we look to the future of electric response vehicles. #BD2 is based at Whitehaven A&E and surrounding areas.
Our team of BEEP Doctors covers the whole of Cumbria from Workington in the west, up to the Scottish Borders and down to Kendal in the south. The BEEP Doctors attend most major incidents in the county, including road traffic collisions, farming accidents or other life threatening medical emergencies.
