After 31 years of tireless service, our founder and dear friend, Dr Theo Weston MBE, has

hung up his stethoscope for the very last time as an active responder with BEEP Doctors.

This is a moment we always knew would come, but one we never truly wanted to accept.

Since founding the BEEP Fund in 1994 (which later became BEEP Doctors), Theo has given thousands of voluntary hours to communities across Cumbria. Week after week, year after year, he responded to life-threatening emergencies day and night – from serious road traffic collisions to farm accidents and medical crises in homes. Alongside this, he gave talks, shared his knowledge, and inspired others to give their time too. He is humble in the truest sense, despite the remarkable impact of his work. His legacy is not only in the lives he saved, but also in the friendships made, the lives enriched, and the community he has built around him.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of his family. Their patience, kindness, and understanding over three decades made it possible for Theo to dedicate so much of his life to BEEP Doctors. From meals left waiting at home to plans interrupted by sudden call-outs, their backing has been an essential part of his journey and service.

The Growth of BEEP Doctors

What began in 1994 as a small local scheme in Penrith, following on from the work of Theo’s father, has grown into a county-wide lifeline. Under Theo’s leadership:

• BEEP Doctors expanded to cover the whole of Cumbria.
• The team has grown to include 12 volunteer doctors.
• There are now four dedicated emergency response vehicles across the county.
• Doctors work closely with police, fire services, the North West Ambulance Service, and air ambulance charities.

This incredible growth is a testament to Theo’s vision and persistence, and to the incredible team he brought together who shared his passion. Together, they developed BEEP Doctors into the county-wide charity it is today.

As Theo steps back from frontline responding, we know he has more than earned a very well-deserved retirement. We are deeply grateful that he will continue to play a role in the charity as a trustee, ensuring his wisdom and experience will still guide our future. The strong foundations he has laid mean BEEP Doctors will continue to grow and thrive, just as he envisioned.
