Friends of BEEP

September 8th, 2020

All charities rely heavily on volunteers helping in a variety of ways and ensuring the good work continues tirelessly all year round. These individuals are generous with their time, their ideas and their smiles, which all go a long way and are greatly appreciated by all of us involved at BEEP.

Our plans for this year were all drawn up by the end of last year and the summer is usually full of events which maximise the good weather and mean we can be out and about meeting the public. We can spread word of the good work our BEEP Doctors do and of the many ways support can be given to us.

This year has been challenging for everyone and we have missed attending many events including the Penrith May Day, Skelton Show, Penrith Agricultural Show and the Cockermouth Show.

Last year we also collected in local M&S stores which raised the profile and awareness of our purpose in the county. Sadly, we have been unable to return this year, so our plans and funds have been dented.

Without these wonderful events, we have missed speaking to the visitors and educating them on the work and everyone involved in BEEP. These events are also important for us as we do collect donations and meet new volunteers who wish to help us.

This year we had also planned to extend our reach and attend shows in the south and west of our lovely county to meet potential new Doctors to join our team. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and speak with members of the public who have never heard of BEEP and we do gain lots of support, both financially and via volunteers offering assistance. If you know of anyone in the south or west of Cumbria, do tell them about us and if they are interested in helping, direct them to our website to find out more

Our team of volunteers, who we have named ‘Friends of BEEP’, have been a huge support during lockdown, with ideas for fundraising and how to plan ahead for next year and when county shows and local community events can safely take place again.

Our Doctors have continued to work during lockdown and they remain on call 24/7, in full PPE, to deliver life-saving skills and assistance to emergency call outs in the Cumbria region. We hope you and your loved ones never encounter us or need our help but we would greatly appreciate any donations, whatever size, during this unprecedented time.
