Join Beep in Pedal for Life: Celebrating 30 Years of Saving Lives in the Community!

May 11th, 2024

As part of our milestone 30th celebrations, the Beep Doctors invite you to join us in a unique and exciting endeavour. Whilst we all adore a slice of birthday cake, we wanted to celebrate our three decades of service by sharing the joy of cycling with you and our local community.

Throughout the months of May and June, we’re launching our Pedal for Life campaign, aiming to inspire as many people as possible to hop on their bikes. From leisurely rides to challenging expeditions, we hope it’s something that everyone can enjoy.

One of the highlights during the campaign will be our fourth annual Beep Doctors Charity Cycle Ride around the perimeter of Cumbria, covering 260 miles. Chairman Dr Theo Weston, MBE, will take on this challenge along with five supporters starting on Friday 24th May and finishing on Tuesday 28th May. We would be very grateful for any support that can be given for the ride either by cheering our amazing cyclists along on the roadside or by sharing our information on your social pages. We hope to reach our target of over £5,000 this year.  Keep an eye out on our social media for more details. If you would like to support Dr Theo and our amazing supporters, you can DONATE HERE

Highlight number two, our very own Dr Chris Moss will be cycling from Cumbria to Croatia – WOW!  Chris is very much looking forward to the challenge and said, “There is nothing better than getting on your bike, feeling the wind rushing through your hair and releasing a big burst of endorphins to make you feel good. Chris is a much-valued Beep Doctor responder and trustee and has decided to cycle across Europe to Croatia to raise vital funds and awareness of our charity so that we can develop and continue to support lifesaving work across Cumbria for another 30 years. We will follow Chris’ journey and share with you across our social media channels – watch this space! If you would like to sponsor Chris on his epic journey you can  DONATE HERE

Our Pedal for Life campaign is not only an initiative to celebrate our 30th year or aim to raise funds and awareness but to also encourage a healthier and more active lifestyle for everyone. Since beyond the obvious physical fitness improvements, cycling contributes significantly to mental well-being and financial savings on travel expenses. Plus it is an excellent opportunity to bond with friends and family.

For those eager to explore cycling further, the British Cycling website offers a wealth of resources, including local group contacts catering to various skill levels and interests. Regardless of your starting point, cycling strengthens both body and mind, all while reducing our carbon footprint and combating climate change.

Cycling isn’t just enjoyable; it’s also incredibly beneficial for cardiovascular health. According to the British Heart Foundation, even two short trips totalling just 30 minutes of cycling daily can significantly enhance your cardiovascular system. Addressing concerns about road safety, Dr Stephen Watkins reassures, “The risks associated with cycling are minimal compared to its numerous health benefits, especially when compared to daily driving”.

In the UK, the National Cycle Network spans an impressive 14,700 miles, providing access to traffic-free lanes and serene routes connecting major cities and towns. This network offers a splendid opportunity to explore the diverse landscapes and hidden gems of our beautiful country.

To kickstart your cycling journey and join us in celebrating our 30th birthday, you could visit https://www.sustrans.org.uk/ to discover a plethora of information and inspiration, including detailed maps of the cycle network and suggested routes ranging from countryside adventures to local explorations and family-friendly outings.

Above all, cycling is an enjoyable and fulfilling activity. So, grab your bike, hit the road, the park, anywhere at all, and join us in our Pedal for Life campaign. Let’s pedal our way to better health and a brighter future together!

To support us in this initiative and raise awareness we would love to see your cycling photos, whether it’s a solo trip in the mountains, a group of friends enjoying a day out or with the kids in the park, please tag us in pictures on social media @beepdoctors or send your images to us at info@beepdoctors.co.uk for us to share #pedalforlife

If you feel inspired to take on a cycling challenge for sponsorship during our campaign, then please let us know and we can support you via our social media channels.

Evey penny raised will make a huge difference. Please do support in any way you can.
