Stay Safe This Christmas

December 5th, 2019

As another year draws to a close, we approach the festive season and it?s a very busy time for everyone. It?s a time for celebration with colleagues, family and friends with spirits high and frivolity in the air. Sadly, it is also a time when the emergency services see an increase in call-outs. Our team of doctors will be busy as they are on-call 24/7 no matter what day of the week or year it is. Good advice in order to keep safe is to plan ahead, don?t take risks and look out for each other. Stay Safe This Christmas.

People?s judgements can be impaired with seasonal over-excitement and excesses of alcohol and drugs. Please don?t drink and drive, as even one glass can impair your judgement. If you are thinking about possibly having a mulled wine, a beer or glass of bubbles, pre-book a taxi or arrange to be picked up by a friend or family member so you won?t be tempted to drive home. This also saves having to return to collect your car the next day too.

In order to stay safe when out and about over the Christmas period, be sure to look after your drinks. Don?t leave them unattended and if you?re unsure if it?s safe to drink, simply don?t. Get yourself a fresh drink.

Whether you?re out with friends, family or colleagues do look after each other and ensure everyone gets home safely. Ask everyone to message to say they?ve got home safely.

In addition to going out and enjoying the festivities, please take a little time to check on your neighbours ? you may know them very well and do errands for them already but there may be individuals or older generations who may not have friends or relations to stop by and check they are safe, warm and have a stock of food should the weather be bad. Finding out if someone needs a few essentials such as a loaf of bread or a pint of milk will make such a big difference to them and is easy for you to add to your usual shop. If you can make up an extra plate on Christmas Day to provide a hot meal to a neighbour, or even set an extra place at your table, you will make such an amazing difference to some living on their own.

You may be the designated driver over the seasonal period, going to visit friends and family however near or far from home. Make sure your vehicle is prepared for the winter weather with correct tyre pressures, full screen wash, clean lights and emergency provisions ? blanket, first aid kit, bottles of water, torch, de-icer and hi-vis vest. When driving, do be mindful of cyclists on the roads, who might not be brightly lit, give them space and everyone can get home safely this December.

Everyone at BEEP Fund Ltd would like to wish you all season?s greetings, a safe festive period and a happy New Year.
